Bay Area Getaways: Your Warm Weather Guide

We love San Francisco. But, as the fog rolls in this summer (and with Memorial Day weekend on the horizon), it’s time to start planning a warm weather getaway for when you absolutely must feel the sun on your skin.  Here are our best ideas- don’t forget the sunscreen!

Foodies on the Road

Leaving the city does not mean you have to forfeit quality culinary experiences. Some of the best food and drink can be found outside of SF, so don’t even think about stopping for fast food.

If you’re heading south, schedule at stop in Monterrey at Restaurant 1833, so named because the building (once a home to the governors of California) dates back to 1833.

Pro Tip: For a more intimate experience, call ahead and reserve on the Founder’s Balcony.

Looking for more heat? Head north to Healdsburg and stop into Mateo’s Cocina Latina for mouth-watering Mexican cuisine and an impressive bar setup specializing in tequila.

Watering Holes

When most people think of Sonoma they probably think of wine, but Sonoma has a rich beer history and is home to the country’s first microbrewery. Celebrate that tradition at Hopmonk Tavern in Sonoma, a hidden gem with over 100 beers!

Of course, no summer is complete without a trip to wine country. Head up to St. Helena on June 9th for a perfect summer day with a lawn concert hosted by Farmstead and Long Meadow Ranch Winery. You will know it’s summer as you sip on wine, munch on farm-to-table cuisine and relax to the sounds of Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers.

The Great Outdoors

Northern California never ceases to amaze with the sheer multitude of opportunities to get out and experience breathtaking nature.  Big Basin Redwoods State Park is one such opportunity. Leave the city behind and head out for a hike amongst the towering Redwoods.
