Don’t even think about getting on a tour bus. Enjoy Napa at your own speed and do what all winos love to do: eat, drink and enjoy the view.
In Napa, food is just as important as wine, and picnickers grab a lunch to go at Dean and Deluca before hunting down the perfect picnic spot. D&D is foodie heaven, and many a tipsy tourist has lost financial perspective in this treasure trove of cured meats, rare cheeses and dozens of other delicacies most non-chefs have never heard of. Those who aren't grocery shopping usually grab a sandwich and a couple prepared salads from the deli before heading off to picnic.
Lunch in tow, the next order of business is finding the perfect spot to nosh and sip. Folks in the know head up the hill to Rutherford Hill Winery to grab a bottle and a picnic table overlooking the valley. Visitors are required to buy a bottle in order to use a picnic table, and other wines are not permitted, but it’s totally worth it to settle in amongst the olive trees and look down on the vineyards below.
