There's a new winery in Napa and it's letting the good times roll. Velo Vino is brought to you by the same folks behind locally based Clif Bar. Part wine tasting, part bicycle base camp, this St. Helena hot-spot pours on the charms.
"There are lots of biking options in the area so this is a perfect activity for beginner and more advanced bikers. As for Velo, the staff is really friendly and helpful. They are more than happy to talk about wine and the Napa Valley. Once you choose a tasting, make sure to ask for the pairing nuts. It's a really fun way to taste your wine while not geting too drunk :)"
"The wines were AWESOME. Especially the Petite Syrah. If you buy a bottle the tasting is free."
The tasting room is bedecked with photographs of Grand Tours and no less than 10 bicycles, including an 1890 classic, “The Rambler.” The friendly staff is upstaged only by delicious sustainable wines including zinfandel, cabernet, and sauvignon blanc. We like The Climber Limited Release red blend (its black-and-white rock-climbing label makes the bottle a keeper). The Climber Pouch, a new take on wine-in-a-bag, makes the perfect camping companion. But before you taste the goods, hop on your bike for a choice of great road rides. For an easy pedal, the 7-mile round-trip White Sulpher Springs Ride works up a thirst. Leaving right from Velo Vino, you’ll ride up Highway 29 for only two blocks before making a left onto Spring Street. From there, it’s smooth cruising in the quiets of Napa Valley backcountry (pictured). Wind along the tree-lined street paralleling a year-round creek, and flip it for the return when the road ends. Back at Velo Vino, kick back on the outdoor patio of what could well become your new favorite winery. What a nice pairing!
THIS WEEKEND: Join Velo Vino for a 24-mile group road ride through Napa Valley this Father’s Day, June 19. It’s free and leaves at 9:00 a.m. RSVP is requested at email@example.com. All are welcome!
