Amazing things can happen when folks get an idea and just go for it. Gary Erickson was on a bike ride when he decided he could make a better energy bar and went on to create what we all know now as Clif Bars. Throw in a love of wine making and the result is the Clif Family Winery tasting room at Velo Vino Napa Valley with a new spin on Wine Country.
Make a reservation for a cruiser or high performance bike in advance and it will be delivered to the Velo Vino tasting room.
"There are lots of biking options in the area so this is a perfect activity for beginner and more advanced bikers. As for Velo, the staff is really friendly and helpful. They are more than happy to talk about wine and the Napa Valley. Once you choose a tasting, make sure to ask for the pairing nuts. It's a really fun way to taste your wine while not geting too drunk :)"
"The wines were AWESOME. Especially the Petite Syrah. If you buy a bottle the tasting is free."
Located on Main Street in St. Helena, Velo Vino is different from the typical Napa Valley tasting room. The first thing you see most likely won’t be wine.
Cycling is an integral part of Gary’s psyche and his stamp is all over the Velo Vino tasting room which blend two of his pursuits like a fine Meritage wine. The tasting room decorating style could be considered “classic velocipede." Bicycles from Olympic races and cycling photos adorn the interior, there is an extensive cycling book shelf and some of the wine labels feature cycling themes. Of course there is bike parking and bicycles can be rented through the Calistoga Bike Shop.
