Coastal Camps: Butano State Park

Cooking dinner on the grill, falling asleep under towering redwoods, waking up to miles of premier trails to explore: that’s state-of-the-art camping in Butano State Park. This gem of a campground on the San Mateo coast is set in a canyon canopied by second-growth redwoods that quietly creak their welcome when you arrive.

The park is on the San Mateo Coast, off Highway One. Three miles northeast of the Gazos Creek Coastal Access Point by way of Gazos Creek Road, and about 4.5 miles southeast of Pescadero by way of the Pescadero and Cloverdale Roads. The park features miles of hiking trails, 21 drive-in campsites and 18 walk-in campsites.
