Drink Like a Mad Man

at Local Edition

Printing artifacts and century-old papers are everywhere. Soak it all in. Once seated at your table (topped using leftover marble from Hearst Castle), you can order cocktails like the Remember the Maine, or opt for bottled cocktails like a green tea/rye Artillery Punch for the table. But for cart-driven service, rare selections like George T. Stagg whiskey will come decanted tableside on a silver tray with all the proper accoutrements.

...the bar replaces what was formerly The Manhattan Lounge in an underground space below the Hearst Building at 691 Market Street — the room was historically the printing room for William Randolph Hearst's Examiner and The Call back in the day, thus the name Local Edition. And rather than a speakeasy theme, this time the retro theme will the 1950s, and the cocktail list from bar manager Ian Scalzo uses names of people and events from that era.

The Bourbon & Branch people are getting away from the reservation-only stigma with Local Edition, a subterranean bar that marries sexy to vintage typewriters in the Hearst Building with a stage for live music. The team's usual serious cocktails are also available with a noticeable lean towards mod era classics.
