Pop-Up Happy Hour: Pizza & Pitchers

Pizza and beer are as classic a pairing as milk and cookies. But you've never seen them like this. Grab a group and head to South Park to try Del Popolo's artisan pies (on wheels, no less), paired with signature suds from heralded local craft breweries.

Del Popolo is a mobile pizzeria designed to bring Neapolitan-inspired pizza to the people, rather than drawing them to a fixed location. It features a 5,000-lb Stefano Ferrara wood-fired brick oven inside a deconstructed, modified transatlantic shipping container mounted to a Freightliner M2 truck. The end result is a glass-enclosed exhibition kitchen much as one might find in a restaurant.

Jon Darsky's Del Popolo pizza truck has been earning raves for its gorgeous, glassed-in design and tasty margherita pies, and this Thursday, it'll be pulling up at the American Grilled Cheese Kitchen for a collaboration with three California brewers: SF's Pacific Brewing Laboratories, Oakland's Linden Street Brewing, and Firestone Walker Brewing Company, out of Paso Robles. Order a pizza from the truck, grab a brew from AGCK (but be forewarned, Del Popolo will be offering the only cheese on bread for the evening), then bask in the sunshine on the restaurant's sizable patio.
