As the latest fad food to sweep the nation, the macaroon is making the chicest of foodies drool at first bite. And this small Hayes Valley shop cooks up no exception; pastry chef Christophe Michalak elevates the macaroon to a work of art.
With a simple and elegant interior, Chantal Guillon lets its main star – the macaroon – take center stage. Ensconced behind glass cases, the confections are arranged in a rainbow assortment. Fruity, aromatic and bright, the macaroons are truly a feast for the senses, an aesthetic and culinary marvel. And paired with tea from the famous Parisian emporium Mariage Freres, there is no better way to enjoy this uniquely French indulgence.
A signature giftbox holds six, twelve or twenty-four macaroons – or for the ever romantic (or ever-hungry), there’s always the five-tiered tower of sixty macaroons (enough to make anyone swoon). And in keeping with the season, the menu changes to include such favorites as peach and passion fruit.
