Pop-Up: Mugsy’s Wine Bar

at El Rio

Mexican-American, family-made wine in the Mission. How often does that happen? At your favorite dive bar, better yet. Wine from Mexican-American and family-owned Ceja Vineyards – Olé!

Friday, June 29th stroll into El Rio and you’ll find a surprise wine bar (within a bar) serving stellar wine on the patio. Focusing on women, urban and people of color, Mugsy serves 4 varieties and costs under $10 a glass.

On a field trip to Napa, Mugsy’s fell under the charms of Amelia Morán Ceja, president and co-owner of Ceja Vineyards, and now they’ll be serving up some of her refreshing 2008 Chardonnay and the scary-drinkable and smooth “Vino de Casa,” a red blend of Pinot Noir and Syrah. Mmm. There’ll also be a finite batch of free oysters at 5:30. Homemade piadina (Italian flatbread sandwiches) from La Piada Randagia pairs nicely and starts around 6-ish.
