French-Japanese Wine Bar & Restaurant

Nob Hill

The restaurant from Keiko Takahashi and Seigo Takei (the Michelin-starred chef of El Paseo and her wine connoisseur husband) offers fine dining and a collector’s wine list (5,000 bottles strong) for less than you might expect. Tucked into a residential building, the space is like an intimate Parisian apartment, with a receiving lounge (parfait for sipping champagne) and two dining rooms brimming with European imports.

Pro Tip

""For now, only the front dining room will be open, which means out of the five tables, you’ll want the corner spot behind the mirrored column"

This is the kind of quaint lair that feels like the Eiffel Tower should be outside the window instead of the Transamerica building. Which makes it exactly the place you’d take someone you’d like to whittle away the night with over five courses and a bottle of 1978 Louis Latour.

You'll remember owners Seigo Takei and chef Keiko Takahashi sold their Michelin-starred El Paseo to Tyler Florence and Sammy Hagar in 2009. Now they're excited to open a new restaurant in San Francisco proper, where they suspect more diners will tap into Seigo's 50,000-deep wine cellar, and open-minded city palates will allow for a more creative Japanese and French inflected menu from Madame Keiko.
