Ocean Beach Bonfire

at Ocean Beach

Only once in a full moon can San Franciscans see the whole night sky, so why not hop over to Ocean Beach and enjoy the stars (and a s’more or three) with a bonfire any night of the week?

Reaching from the Cliff House to the Zoo, Ocean Beach is the longest stretch of sand in San Francisco, making it the perfect spot for a bonfire campout. And in true San Francisco style, the state park recently debuted the Ocean Beach Fire Rings, donated art pieces that allow for safe, contained bonfires on the beach.

With a swanky set up and easy access from the city, beach lovers flock to this strip of sand with their flip-flops and parkas. It is San Francisco, after all, and the beach is as infamous for its views as it is for the ever-present chill. But gathered around a bonfire, visitors warm up with a smorgasbord of roasted goodies. Some wait for the glowing coals and toss in corn and apples to roast, while others eagerly plunge their marshmallow-ed spears into the fire. Plus, the fire is far more than a kitchen; it lights the night as the sun plunges into the Pacific, and keeps everybody toasty as the embers fade.

Pro Tip

"An especially popular beach locale, the bonfires fill up quickly on weekends. Since the beach closes at 10pm, plan for an early evening and grab a fire ring well before the sun sets. " — The Sōsh Concierge

Prepare Yourself

"Dress warm! It's freezing!" — Reina Shah
