One of the most influential artists of our time, Cindy Sherman creates provocative works that explore issues of identity and representation. Well-known as the artist behind the second most expensive photograph of all-time, Cindy works as her own model, deftly transforming her appearance using wigs, costumes, makeup, and props to create intriguing tableaux and characters.
The first major exhibition of Sherman's work ever presented in San Francisco, this retrospective brings together more than 150 photographs made from the mid-1970s to the present.
To further commemorate Cindy, SFMOMA's rooftop Blue Bottle cafe is now serving a Cindy Sherman-inspired ice cream float . The float features vanilla ice cream, raspberry or strawberry sorbet, house-made bubblegum soda, edible “disco glitter” sprinkled on top, and a coaster printed with a swatch of floral print taken from Sherman's Untitled #415.
