Secret Playground

at Seward Street Slides

One of the few free adventures left in the city, the Seward Slides have been a long-time mainstay of a quiet Castro neighborhood. Take a trip down the famed steep slopes and see if you can resist squealing like a kid.

Tucked away in the Castro, the Seward Slides are the epitome of cheap thrills. A product of a park rebuilding campaign in the '70s, the slides are steeply perched on a hillside and constructed entirely of concrete. What they lack in comfort, however, they make up for in pure childlike joy. Savvy sliders pimp their ride with a piece of cardboard, making their date with gravity even faster (while saving their backsides from slide burn).

With their high walls and sharp turns, the journey down the Seward Street Slides is an adrenaline rush of epic proportions – made even better by the glute workout on the trek back up the hill and the cheering children that pass you by.

The Sōsh Insider

Pro Tip

"Prepare for the bumpy ride by wearing long sleeves and close-toed shoes. (The slides are made of concrete after all.) It's also a good idea to bring some cardboard to sit on." — The Sōsh Concierge

Prepare Yourself

"According to the park’s signs, all grown-ups must be accompanied by children. So bring a son, niece, or goddaughter along!" — The Sōsh Concierge
