Introduction to Opera

at Sherman Clay

New to opera or interested in deepening your appreciation? Come join your San Francisco Opera Bravo! Club friends for a special evening wine reception and workshop featuring Musical Director of West Edge Opera as well as Assistant Conductor and Prompter of the Metropolitan Opera, Jonathan Khuner, at Sherman Clay Pianos on Thursday, April 19th at 6pm. This event is free for everyone to attend.

We'll begin with an introduction to some of the basic musical and theatrical elements that make up opera, then survey a number of major works and composers from the 17th century through today, discussing how the art form has grown and evolved to reflect changing musical tastes and cultural and political realities. Recorded clips and live music will be used to illustrate the discussion and there will be plenty of opportunities to interact and ask questions.
