A Temple for Coffee Lovers

at Sightglass Coffee

Sightglass Coffee is for coffee geeks by coffee geeks. Thanks to meticulous roasting technique, quality beans, and an $18,000 state-of-the-art espresso machine, the coffee is among the best in the city. But even if you don't appreciate the nuances of a fine cappuccino, Sightglass is worth the visit even just for the sheer beauty of the space.

Airy, industrial yet inviting, modern with vintage framework, Sightglass Coffee is housed in an bi-level space that was once a warehouse. From the mezzanine level, enjoy a quiet cup of coffee as you people watch.

... with all the finishing touches complete on the airy space, they open for business in the main roastery with a brand new coffee bar area, at the center of which is their 1961 Probat roaster, imported from Germany last year and responsible for the delicate, unburnt quality of their beans.

And even if you balk at single cups of coffee in the $4 range - no Sanka here - it's worth a visit for the architecture's overlapping textures and layers, an internal unfolding of sensations.

The thick concrete exterior was changed not at all, but a few steps past the sidewalk place you in a sharp contemporary world. The new vestibule is framed by floor-to-ceiling glass within clean lines of black steel. The counter to the right is reclaimed baywood atop a base of paneled zinc.
