Housemade Spirits & Classic Cocktails

at Tradition

The most recent offering from the crew behind Bourbon & Branch, Rickhouse, and Local Edition is Tradition, which is a tribute to “the story of the American drinking tradition.” True to its name, Tradition serves over 50 unique wood-finished spirits aged in-house that are representative of the different eras of American drinking culture.

A reservation-only section with nine "confessional-like booths" that they're calling snugs. Each will be dedicated to a different cocktail era or spiritous origin that have contributed to drinking traditions, and each will seat between two and eight people. The themes, which will guide the nightly changing cocktail selection (available in all the snugs): Prohibition, Tiki, American Dive Bar, English, Irish, Scottish, the Big Easy, and Grand Hotel.

The bartenders concoct their own blended spirits. But you can also blend your own. Soak some beer (for example) in a used bourbon barrel to prime it, then pour some 12-year-old whiskey in and age it to your liking. The result: your own private personal stash.

Praiseworthy

"The Bourbon and Branch guys nailed it with this one. The bar itself is one of the nicest in the city and their selection of whiskeys is impressive." — Salil Apte
