at Wo Hing General Store
Welcome to Wo Hing General Store, the newest addition to the Slanted Door empire, opening Friday on Valencia. Now, you might remember this spot. But after a mere nine years of vacancy, the space has been reborn as a two-story temple of Chinese street food.

The place is named for Phan's uncle (Wo) and father (Hing), pays tribute to his family's business when they emigrated from China to Vietnam in 1951, which was a general store. The concept is Chinese and street-food-inspired, and there's a whimsical cocktail program from bar star Brooke Arthur (formerly of Prospect and Range), including a tart and delicious pina colada, a "lower-alcohol" gin martini, and a great new twist on the daquiri.

The theme will be southern China-inspired street food. Phan - along with chef Michelle Mah, a former Chronicle Rising Star Chef while at Ponzu - will create a menu specializing in congee, noodles, rice plates, dumplings and "lots of bar food." "I always had the need to have porridge and noodles in the Mission," says Phan, who went to Mission High. "But for years, I had to drive to Chinatown. Now we're finally getting jook in the Mission."
